B A L L I N T E E R

Type:                Private Residential

Status:              Completed 2021

Location:          Ballinteer, Co. Dublin.

On a challenging site, with several unusual past lives, our proposal aims to reinstate a solely domestic order. Before the extensive demolitions got underway in October 2020, the site was home to several semi-industrial outbuildings. The design draws on some of the language of these industrial buildings - the somewhat austere massing and saw-tooth roof forms give the large extension character and presence. The saw tooth roof form follows into the upper plan to give lofty ceiling heights in the principal bedrooms. The narrow plan of the original dwelling accommodates the main entrance, a sitting space and study at ground floor and bedrooms at the upper level. The stairs is moved outside the footprint of the existing structure where it acts as a pivot between the large reception spaces addressing the garden and the more private spaces contained in the original house.
