Type: Private Residential

Status: Completed 2021

Location: Cabra, Dublin 7

This original ‘two-up - two-down’ quite typical of Dublin7, while beautifully decorated and furnished, required some consideration to establish a connection to the rear garden. The former rear kitchen extension was broken out to allow a re-proportioning of the space and new steps down to the rear allows for direct access and flow to the garden from all living spaces. A small WC is reinstated under the stairs along with a short utility space forming a division between front and rear living spaces, while an office desk is inserted in-between, ensuring full use of each space . A generous rooflight over exposed rafters allows light and shade throughout the day

The clients collection of mid-century furnishings were reflected in the deeply stained timber fenestration elements and block-coloured kitchen and fitted-furniture, while their green fingers inspired the inclusion of the external planter box directly communicating with the window seat. The exterior is formed in white brick with blackened douglas fir cladding overhead and to the planter/bench. The same brickwork wraps to the interior forming the window seat.

This project was carried out under permitted development rights.
